Amélioration des techniques d'élevage de la chevrette Macrobrachium rosenbergii en Guyane ArchiMer
Griessinger, Jean-michel; Gondouin, Philippe; Dutto, Gilbert; Lacroix, Denis; Pollet, Thierry; Falguiere, Jean-claude; Mer, Gilles.

Compensatory growth of Malaysian prawns reared at high densities during the nursery phase R. Bras. Zootec.
Marques,H.L.A.; Lombardi,J.V..
The objective of this work was to verify the occurrence of compensatory growth in Malaysian prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) reared in pens, after being stocked in cages under high densities during nursery phase. The experiment was carried out in 0.5 m² cages and 2-m² pens set in natural bottom pond with 2,400 m². Prawn post-larvae (PL) with an average weight of 0.026 ± 0.012 g (nursery phase) were initially stocked in 16 cages at the densities of 50, 400, 800 and 1,200 PL m-2. Sixty days later, prawns were transferred to 16 growing pens, at the density of 12 prawns m-2. Initial average weight of the prawn in this phase was the final average weight registered in the nursery phase, as follows: 50 PL m-2 = 2.3 ± 0.3 g; 400 PL m-2 = 0.5 ± 0.03 g; 800 PL m-2...

Crescimento relativo do camarão canela Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) em viveiros Zoologia
Moraes-Riodades,Patrícia M.C.; Valenti,Wagner C..
Some morphometric relationships in Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller, 1862) reared in earthen ponds were studied. A total of 239 individuals were collected, sexed and sorted to juvenile or adult. Total length (Lt), post-orbital length (Lpo), carapace length (Lcp) and queliped length (Lql) were measured. The relationships Lt/Lpo, Lpo/Lcp and Lt/Lcp are the same for juveniles, males and females, indicating unchanged growth pattern during post-larval ontogenetic development. While Lt/Lpo showed isometric growth, Lpo/Lcp and Lt/Lcp showed negative allometry. On the other hand, for the Lql/Lcp relationship, juveniles showed isometric growth, females slight positive allometry and males a strong positive allometry. It suggests that the importance of chelipeds may...

Bentes, Bianca; Martinelli-Lemos, Jussara Moretto; Paes, Eduardo Tavares; Fernandes, Suelly Cristina Pereira; Paula, Jeanne Duarte; Isaac, Victoria.
Macrobrachium amazonicum is a freshwater prawn endemic to South America with wide distribution in Brazilian Amazon rivers. In estuary and freshwater streams of the Pará State, they are captured with different types of traps locally know matapi. This study evaluated the efficiency of traps of different sizes (large, medium and small) and baits (babassu coconut and fish) for sampling this shrimp. Samplings were conducted with 24 traps with different treatments (trap size and bait). We captured 909 specimens. Higher mean catches were observed in traps baited with babassu coconut. Interactions between babassu coconut bait and medium matapi (BM-M), and fish bait and large matapi (FISH-L) were significant. Carapace length (CL) varied significantly between sites...

Foregut morphology of Macrobrachium carcinus (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) Acta Amazonica
LIMA,Jô de Farias; GARCIA,Jamile da Silva; TAVARES,Marcos.
ABSTRACT Macrobrachium carcinus is a Brazilian native prawn with recognized potential for use in aquaculture activities. The aim of this study was to describe and illustrate in detail the morphology of the M. carcinus foregut. The foregut comprises the mouth, esophagus and stomach. It is lined by a simple cylindrical epithelium overlain by chitinous cuticle. The cardiac chamber is well supplied with muscles and lined with chitin thickened in places to form a complex, articulating set of ossicles. The ossicles and setae inside the cardiac chamber seem to direct the food movement through the cardiac chamber and sort the food according to particle size as digestion takes place. Twenty-one basic ossicles were observed in the stomach ofM. carcinus and are...

Influence of environmental variables on seasonal abundance and relative growth of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Crustacea: Decapoda: Caridea): variations of a continental population Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Bueno,Alessandra A. P.; Bonatto,Carolina R.; Almeida,Ariádine C..
ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of abiotic factors (conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, precipitation, and water temperature) on the abundance of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller, 1862), as well as to compare the relative growth among demographic groups throughout the seasons in a lagoon system located in the municipality of Perdões, Minas Gerais. Monthly, from August/2013 to July/2014, the prawns were collected on macrophytes of the genus Eichhornia using a semi-circular sieve. In the laboratory, the specimens were categorized into juveniles, males, ovigerous females and non-ovigerous females, and measured as total length (TL), carapace length (CL), and abdomen length (AL). The predominance of juveniles was evident,...

Juvenile production of the reshwater prawn Cryphiops caementarius (Decapoda: Palaemonidae) under laboratory conditions in Coquimbo, Chile Gayana
Meruane,Jaime; Rivera,Miguel; Morales,Cristina; Galleguillos,César; Hosokawa,Hidetsuyo.
Two culture experiments from 1995 until 1997 were carried out with larvae obtained from gravid females of Cryphiops caementarius (Molina 1782), to define a methodology in order to produce juvenile using controlled conditions of water temperature, salinity and feeding. Time in culture of larval development and the survival rate were determined. Two distinct types of culture systems were studied. Both systems incorporated a standard alimentation using nauplius of Artemia sp. plus microalgae; however the second system included, in addition, a supplement of fish and chiken eggs. The decrease in survival rate in both cultures systems was related to morphological changes in each stage of development. Juveniles were obtained after 98 days of culture with the...

Microbiological and chemical changes in freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosembergii) stored under refrigeration BJM
Leitão,Mauro Faber de Freitas; Rios,Daniel de Pinho Astacio.
Microbiological and chemical changes were evaluated in freshwater prawn stored under refrigeration at 0°C and 5°C during 10 days, with special emphasis on indole production as a chemical spoilage indicator. The total psychrotrophic and indole positive microflora were mainly mesophilic, with indole positive microorganisms being less than 10% of the total microflora after 10 days storage under refrigeration. Bacteria from Enterobacteriaceae and Vibrionaceae families prevailed among the isolated indole positive strains. The use of the Most Probable Number-MPN method, using tryptone broth as culture medium, was the most reliable approach for the quantitative evaluation of the indole positive microflora. The stored samples showed increases in pH, L-tryptophan...
